Engaging club members in learning opportunities that give people tools to prevent, and respond to, racism and discrimination

In 2021 Logan Metro FC Head Coach Luis Melgar hosted a 2 part podcast series to increase the club community knowledge of racism and provide practical tools to prevent or address it.

Episode 1: local leader, youth worker and former Football QLD employee Butrus Haider speaks about his experiences as a South Sudan born migrant growing up in Australia, dealing with racism and what has to happen now ‘after the hashtag finishes’.

Burtus talks about:
-“Shopping black” and what it’s like to shop as a person of colour
– black lives matter v all lives matter

Episode 2: University of Queensland Associate Professor Fiona Barlow shares the research and facts behind racism. The fascinating chat touches on:

– Systemic racism in Australia
– Whether racism is a learnt behaviour
