Women Uprising: Women of Colour Survey

Actively sourcing feedback from relevant community groups to help the club provide for the diversity of the community. 

Climbing as a sport has traditionally been dominated by white men. Now an Olympic sport with increased popularity many clubs and groups are taking steps to better welcome and include non-traditional member groups.

The Women of Colour Survey was designed to help inform how safer and more inclusive climbing spaces might be created specifically for women of colour.

The results helped the Women Uprising group better understand the needs of the people they aim to serve who currently are not catered for. Key themes that emerged included a need for a better understanding of Indigenous People’s sovereignty, connection to the land and sacred sites within “mainstream” climbing communities.
